Southwest operates out of LAX and Burbank, and Burbank fares are often $20-40 cheaper than LAX on the same Southwest route. JetBlue runs competitive fares from the East Coast, especially New York. Redeye flights (departing 10pm-1am) are consistently the cheapest option for one-way flights to LA from the East Coast. You'll save $30-60 vs daytime flights and gain time with the time zone change. For budget travelers, Burbank is the move — it's a tiny airport with no long security lines, and it's closer to Hollywood and the Valley than LAX.
