How to Find Cheap Flights to Seoul
Incheon International Airport (ICN) is Seoul's main airport and one of the best in Asia — consistently ranked top 5 globally. It's about 60-70 minutes from central Seoul by Airport Railroad Express (AREX, $9) or airport bus ($15). Korean Air and Asiana fly nonstop from JFK, LAX, SFO, ORD, SEA, IAH, ATL, and DFW — one-way fares run $400-550. For budget options, T'way Air and Jin Air (Korean budget carriers) don't fly from the US but offer insanely cheap regional flights once you're in Asia. The real money move: Chinese carriers (China Southern via Guangzhou, China Eastern via Shanghai) offer one-way fares as low as $300-380 with a mainland China stop. United and Delta also fly nonstop from their respective hubs. Seoul is a major connecting hub for Southeast Asia — if you're heading to Bangkok, Hanoi, or Manila afterward, routing through ICN often gets you a cheap combo. Book 8-10 weeks in advance. September-October is the cheapest window and also the best weather (crisp fall, beautiful foliage).
Seoul for Digital Nomads
Seoul hits a sweet spot — cheaper than Tokyo, more developed than Bangkok. Budget $1,200-1,800/month for a comfortable nomad life. A goshiwon (small private room) runs $300-500/month, an Airbnb or officetel is $600-1,000. Korean food is cheap and incredible — bibimbap or kimchi jjigae at a local spot is $5-7. Street food is everywhere. US citizens need a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) — it's easy, apply online, costs $10, approved within hours, gives you 90 days. Hongdae is the young/creative hub with nightlife and cafes. Gangnam is more corporate but has great coworking. Itaewon is the international neighborhood with English-friendly everything. WeWork and FastFive are the main coworking chains — desks start at $150-250/month. Cafes are extremely laptop-friendly (Koreans practically live in them). Internet is the fastest in the world — 100-500 Mbps is standard. Subway system is excellent and cheap ($1.25 per ride).
