Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is the main gateway, about 40-50 minutes from central Taipei by MRT ($5) or bus ($4). EVA Air is your best bet for nonstop flights — they fly from LAX, JFK, SFO, SEA, and ORD with one-way fares starting around $380-500. EVA is a Star Alliance member and regularly ranked among the world's best airlines, so you're getting premium service at reasonable prices. China Airlines (Taiwan's other major carrier, not to be confused with mainland Chinese airlines) also flies nonstop from LAX, JFK, SFO, and ONT — often slightly cheaper than EVA at $349-450. Then there's Starlux Airlines — Taiwan's new premium carrier launched in 2020. They fly nonstop from LAX, SFO, and SEA with excellent service and competitive introductory pricing at $380-480. For budget options, Chinese carriers (China Southern, Xiamen Air) with a mainland stop can dip below $300 but add significant travel time.
